Fiddler’s Green Vineyard Wine tasting room

The Wine tasting room features local wines of Waipara Valley that do not have a cellar door of their own, along with the wines of Fiddler’s Green Vineyard & Bistro. We showcase distinctive boutique wines that show the diversity of wine making styles of Waipara Valley.

Presently, we provide tastings for The Old Glenmark Vicarage, Harris Estate, Mon Cheval and of course Fiddler’s Green Vineyard.  We are continually expanding so more are joining us for tastings.

Visit and learn about all these wines in our relaxed atmosphere.

We can do the tasting at the bar or at your table as you enjoy a meal. Whatever is more comfortable.

Tastings take a good amount of time with all the different varieties & vineyards presented.


Dry Riesling 2020

Straw coloured in the glass. Rich and rather exotic on the nose with peach and rock-melon. The palate is full and textural with a creamy feel supporting a range of citrus fruits. Long fresh palate perfect for food pairing. Alc 14.2% - RS 7 g/L

Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Pale straw in the glass. Aromatically intense with typical Waipara Sauvignon characters of feijoa, thai basil and background stonefruits. The palate shows ripeness and intensity with yellow peach, passionfruit, lime and lemon verbena. A beautiful wine to pair with seafood and light meals. Alc 13.5% - RS 4 g/L

Gewürztraminer 2020

Light lemon in colour. Gently floral showing lychee, Turkish delight and subtle vanilla bean on the nose. The palate is lovely with fresh stonefruits and musk balanced by ripe fruity acidity. The perfect wine to enjoy with cheeses or lightly spiced meals. Alc 13.5% - RS 18 g/L

Blush Rose 2020

Light rose petal in colour. On the nose this Rose shows raspberry and cream, leading to an enticing palate of cherry and red berry. Fresh fruity acidity supported by more complex almond and subtle baking spices flow through to a long finish. Lovely to enjoy chilled with a charcuterie platter. Alc 14% - RS 8 g/L

2019 Gewürztraminer

This geẅurztraminer exhibits aromas of pear, Turkish delight, rose water & almond nougat while the palate shows a silky rounded texture blending into a balanced savoury finish. Drink now or cellar up to 10 years.

2018 Chardonnay

A full but smooth, elegant style of chardonnay. Ripe melon, peach & apricot fruit flavors are complimented by toast & buttery complexities.

2018 Pinot Noir

Red & dark cherry on the nose with a hint of smokiness. The palate is long & fresh with wild berry & fine chalky tannins. Enjoy now or through to 2025.

2018 Pinot Noir Reserve

This 2018 Pinot noir was aged for 17 months in barrel, of which the latter 3 months were spent resting in a specially imported American oak barrel from Jack Daniels distillery. The wine exhibits some high-toned whisky notes with smoky char which intermingles beautifully with cherry and red fruit aromas, baking spice and liquorice from the wine. The wine is elegant yet supple, a silky texture with good acid balance and smooth tannins on the finish. Would happily cellar for 5-7 years

The Old Glenmark Vicarage wines

2015 Riesling

Made in the style of a German Kabinett with low alcohol, vibrant acidity and residual sugar. This fresh, forward & fruity wine displays elegant spice with a subtle mandarin undertone. The palate is balanced with a crisp mineral finish.

2014 Late Harvest Riesling

This fresh, forward & fruity wine displays elegant flavors of honeydew & vanilla pod. The palate is wonderfully balanced with a crisp sweet finish.

2015 Pinot Noir

A bouquet of dark brambly fruit, with a spicy edge, & a touch of wood smoke on the nose. Soft subtle tannin structure in harmony with acid driving the palette with gentle oak finishing. Great with food & for further cellaring.

Mon Cheval Wines

2018 Mon Cheval Rosé

Handpicked Pinot Noir grapes were temperature control fermented then matured for 4 months in old barriques before bottling.
​A pale salmon pink, this dry Rosé has aromas of strawberry and melon. Hints of the aromas carry through to the palate, but the predominant flavours are white peach and nectarine in this classic refreshing Rosé. Crafted to enjoy young and fresh, preferably within 2 years of vintage.

2016 Mon Cheval Riesling

Bright light straw in colour, this medium Riesling has aromas of various citrus fruits, pear and honeysuckle. On the palate mandarin and marmalade dominate, with a hint of mineral elements, finishing long and succulent.
Enjoy now or over the next 10 years.

2012 Mon Cheval Pinot Noir

Maturing well, this medium-full bodied Pinot Noir has a nose of dark cherry and plum, with complexing herb and spice notes. The palate is elegant with secondary savoury characteristics emerging on top of the cherry and berry fruit. Fine soft tannins follow on to lingering, balanced finish.

Aromas and flavours of a sophisticated and alluring Pinot Noir with plum, mushroom, light and darker cherry, plenty of strawberry notes and fine baking spice wood layers. Silky and elegant on the palate with flavours that reflect the nose, finer tannins, medium + acidity, fabulous balance and length. Well made. Best from now and through 2026. Pinot Noir 2008

A moderate garnet aged colour, this Pinot Noir shows intense aromatics of dried plum, flowers and a hint of tamarillo. The palate still has loads of sweet dried fruits, game, dried herbs and earthy mushroom, and finishes long and intense. The oak (40% new), acid and fruit have integrated harmoniously to produce this gorgeous Burgundian style wine. Drink now to 2022. Perfect food match: Coq au Vin.

Le Char Pinot Noir 2010

This is Mon Cheval’s upper tier Pinot Noir only produced in top vintages.
Dark, deep and complex, the broad bouquet shows savoury dark berry, cured meat, mushroom and forest floor. A touch of aniseed and floral perfumes also come through, possibly from the use of whole bunch stalks. The wine has an abundance of ripe berry and plum fruit flavours, mushroom and dried herbs, with an instantly appealing savoury complexity and lingering finish.

No mistaking the purity, power and elegance of this Pinot with oak leading the package of aromas. Forrest berries, brown spices abundant in vanilla and clove scents. Dry, spiced, chalky, fine tannins, silky textures and a core of red berry fruits. Earthy and sophisticated, lengthy and packed with Pinosity. Best from 2019 and through to 2029 Cameron Douglas, 95points May 2018

Harris Estate Wines

2014 Pinot Noir

Even, dark ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues on the rim. The nose is elegant in presentation with a finely structured core of dark-red cherry and berry fruit entwined with fragrant dark-red florals and subtle notes of savoury dark and dried herbs, revealing a little earth and spice. This is harmonious and balanced. Medium-full bodied, the palate is sweetly rich and succulent with flavours of dark-red cherry and berry fruit along with subtle notes of dark-red florals and dark herbs. The mouthfeel is bright and lively with fresh, balanced, lacy acidity, and the fruit is underlined by fine, grainy tannins. The flavours show some secondary savoury undergrowth and earthy nuance. The freshness of the palate carries the wine to a vibrant and lively finish. This is a sweetly succulent and elegant Pinot Noir with dark-red cherry and berry fruit along with floral herbs and savoury elements on a vibrant palate.
